Hi, I’m Sweeny Mbelu, but many people call me “Aunty Sweeny”. I’m originally from the beautiful island of Sri Lanka, and have resided in Nigeria for 39 years (and counting). I have 3 precious children, and wonderful grandchildren. Aside from my biological children, I consider myself a mother to many people whose lives have crossed my path. I’m a computer analyst by profession, and was one of the early consultants involved in computerising systems for businesses across Nigeria. For 27 years, I have worked with a leading construction company, heading operations for their Lagos office. I’m an ordained minister, and I’m often invited as a guest preacher to Christian events.

Over several decades, I have counselled individuals, couples, and families. I have been a part of their personal, professional, and spiritual growth. It’s a beautiful experience for them, and also for me. counsellor, and an intercessor for many people – young and old. I was raised with a lot of love, and have learned compassion, patience, and resilience. My passion for people, my patience, and my listening ear are some of the traits that have helped me counsel effectively.

I met Mama Sweeney when I was struggling with the reality of my broken dreams of becoming an international Model. Rejections upon rejections led to depression. A well meaning pastor directed me to the Medical department after I came out for prayers crying to him that I was extremely sad. Medical team took me to the hospital. Diagnosis-depression solution-drugs. I was not ready for drugs, living alone and not knowing how the side effects would turn out for me. A friend had previously told me about Mama Sweeney but after my trip to the hospital I decided to reach out to her. I entered her office, burdened, gloomy with a negative outlook on life and God. She listened to me with gentle wisdom, patience and compassion. She shared her life experiences, believing my dreams were valid but it was all about God’s timing and will.
